Well, sir, I have been talking to you about the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit. We're so well acquainted with Jesus, the Son of the Living God. And we know God the Father, the mighty Creator. But how few are personally acquainted with the Holy Ghost. And remember something. The Holy Spirit is as definitely a person as Jesus, the Son of God, is a person. As definitely a person with a personality as is God the Father. God is a person. Jesus is a person. The Holy Spirit is a person. The three in one. And yet each with a very distinctive work. Yet one does not do the work of the other, and not one of them works separately and apart from the other two. Please know that. And yet the three are one, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. You know, we have in Ephesians the greatest revelation that God ever gave man. No wonder that just before Paul wrote portions of the Great Revelation that God had given to him, that suddenly the very thought of the work of the Father, the very thought of the work of Jesus and of the power of the Holy Ghost so overwhelmed him that he burst forth in praise with these words, Blessed be the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. Now, for just a second, I want to show you what each member of the Godhead has done in bringing into existence the Church. And we have this glorious knowledge in the first chapter of Ephesians from the fourth and including the fourteenth verses. Let me just give them to you. The three persons of the Trinity and that which they have done. I read from God's word. According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love. having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the Beloved, in whom we have redemption through His blood. the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace, wherein He hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence, having made known unto us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure, which He hath purposed in Himself, that in the dispensation of fullness of time He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven. and which are on earth, even in him, in whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will, that we should be to the praise of his glory who first trusted in Christ, in whom ye also trusted. After that ye heard the word of the truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession unto the... praise of His glory. I again repeat, we have here in this portion of God's Word the greatest revelation that God ever gave man. For we see immediately that each member of the Godhead has done three things. Through the Father, and remember something, God the Father is the big boss. I always like to think of him as the big boss of the Trinity, seated upon his throne. There is only one throne. There has been, up until now, just one throne in heaven. That's the throne of God. Jesus is seated at the right hand of God the Father. But remember, it is still God's throne. Up until this hour, God the Father is the big boss seated up on his throne. And through the Father, we were chosen, predestinated, and accepted. Now through Jesus Christ the Son, we have redemption and the forgiveness of sins. We do not... have the forgiveness of our sins we do not have salvation we do not have redemption through god the father know that i repeat again there are three persons of trinity and the work of each is separate and apart distinctive from that of the other and yet one is just as important as the other no beloved we do not have redemption through god the father We were chosen, we were predestinated, we were accepted to the Father. But before the very foundation of the world, you and I were in the mind of God. Plans for us were made for our redemption, our salvation. For God the Father, God the mighty Creator, God Almighty, has perfect knowledge of all things, knowing that Lucifer would fall, knowing that judgments had to be met, knowing that the law had to be satisfied, knowing that penalties had to be paid, he and the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, entered into a solemn covenant. a solemn agreement whereby the perfect sinless absolute holy son would come and pay the price he alone could justify the judgments he alone could satisfy the law he alone could satisfy the penalties that had to be paid for the redemption of men and women. That is the reason, beloved, that glorious person, the Word of God, as recorded in the book of Revelation, as a lamb slain from the foundation of the world. As far back as the very foundation of the world. Before the foundation of the world, the Bible says. Jesus was as a lamb slain. He came to earth to be slain. And he knew it. He knew he was going to have to die. Ah, he knew that he alone could satisfy the judgments, the penalties, the law. That is the reason over and over again during his life here on earth he would say, my hour has not yet come. Or the hour has not yet come. And then suddenly when he saw the cross, he said, my hour has come. You and I have redemption. We have the forgiveness of sins through the Son. Our inheritance is through Jesus Christ, the Son. But, beloved, here is something. And I want you to get every word that I say very distinctly. Because this is most important. By the Holy Spirit, we are quickened. We are sealed. We are given an earnest. The Holy Spirit is most important. The person of the Holy Spirit is most important. For by Him, the Scripture says, we are quickened. We are sealed. We are given an earnest. I read from the first chapter of Ephesians, the 13th verse, in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. Now, the seal is a mark of ownership. We become God's property when we accept Christ. And God marks us as His own. Oh, salvation is marvelous. That glorious new birth experience. That moment when you and I accept Christ as our Savior. That transaction between the individual and Almighty God. When the kingdom of God comes within us, when the seed of our affection, our soul, knows that marvelous transformation, we automatically become God's property. We become heirs of God. We are adopted of the Father. At that moment, the Holy Spirit places upon us the mark of ownership. Ye are sealed with that Holy Spirit. Let me give you something that is very practical and something that probably will illustrate what I'm trying to say. In the cattle country, or where they raise sheep, They call it branding. And the owner of those little calves will put his brand upon their flesh. We call it branding. And immediately, when anyone in that territory sees that brand upon that little calf, they know to whom that one belongs. They know that... Someone owns that little calf. Paul said, I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus Christ. Oh, I know there are those who try to interpret that and say that he was talking about the marks of persecution, the marks of suffering. I do not believe for one minute. When Paul said, I bear branded in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus Christ, he meant exactly the same thing that... He was talking about here in the first chapter of Ephesians. Ye are sealed with that Holy Ghost. The seal, that mark of ownership, is placed on that one who has been born again. God has placed the mark of ownership upon us. We are sealed with a seal, that of a living person. Oh, to me, that's thrilling. To me, that is the most glorious thing in the world. That's the reason I must be very careful how I live. When I walk down the street, I must be very careful what I do. I bear the seal. I bear the mark of ownership of the Lord Jesus Christ. And the world has every right to expect something from this life of mine. Something different. than that of that someone who does not bear that mark of ownership. Oh, I wish I could go on for hours and talk to you regarding this marvelous ownership. But let's go a little deeper. Is that all? No. Not only are we sealed by the Holy Ghost, but we are sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. Now watch it. The spirit of promise. He is the promise of better things. Oh, let me read it to you. In 1 John, the third chapter. Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us that we should be called the sons of God. Therefore, the world knows us not because it knew him not. Beloved. Now are we the sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be. But we know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. We can only know in part. that which is our full inheritance in Christ Jesus. We only see a glimpse. The Holy Spirit is the promise of better things. One day we shall be unwrapped. The giving of the Holy Spirit is the earnest, believe me, and earnest is a down payment. It is a pledge of good faith. And the Holy Spirit is the pledge of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possessions unto the praise of His glory. Remember something. Our redemption is not perfected at the time of our salvation. Our redemption is perfected. Redemption will be perfected when we stand in His glorious presence with bodies even like unto His body. Then and then only will our redemption be perfected. Until that time, the giving of the Holy Ghost is an earnest, the down payment, the pledge. of his good faith. Thank God. Amen.
